Expert ski resorts

The Chamonix ski resort in France has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the most thrilling and adventurous resorts for expert skiers.  The combination of glaciers, crevasses and steep mountain slopes makes Chamonix a somewhat dangerous location for inexperienced skiers, but a real playground for those with advanced skills, confidence and know-how.  As an added bonus, you can enjoy skiing in this amazing terrain with the spectacular scenery of Mount Blanc and the French Alps in the background! 

It is highly recommended that you only ski the expert areas around Chamonix with a reputable guide who has local experience, regardless of your ability level.  There are more ski guides in Chamonix than any other ski resort in the world and they are an essential part of enjoying the mountains to their full potential, as well as minimizing risk.  Some of the guided runs include jumping across large crevasses, which is a truly exhilarating experience.  

More great expert skiing can be found at one of Chamonix’s closest neighbors, Verbier in Switzerland.  Verbier is located in the southwest of Switzerland about 2 hours from Geneva and 1 hour from Chamonix.   

The main thing that keeps expert skiers coming back to Verbier is the incredible off-piste opportunities.  It is easy to get away from the groomed runs and experience the freedom of exploring the untouched backcountry.  Much of this spectacular off-piste terrain can be accessed via the resorts regular chairlifts, which is a relatively unique feature of Verbier.   

The areas of Verbier that are preferred by expert skiers and boarders are the challenging environments of Mt Gele and Chassoure-Tortin and the stunning glacial vicinity of Mont Fort.  These are areas where experienced skiers and snowboarders can really test their skills and expand their ability.  The off-piste country on the back of Mont Fort is an adrenaline-junkies dream.  Verbier is also an excellent place to enroll in an expert clinic to really take your skiing to the next level.  You may also get the chance to see some of the real stars in action as Verbier hosts several of the leading extreme skiing competitions each year.    

Expert ski resorts

		Chamonix Ski Resort, Chamonix Mont Blanc, France Chamonix is one of the ultimate areas to ski for the expert level skier. This is a true “ski or die” resort. The trails are literally death-defying. This is not a place to ski for the faint of heart. This is truly an expert’s dream resort.
		Jackson Hole, Teton Village, Wyoming, USA Although there certainly are areas for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers, this is truly a resort for the expert. Not only is terrain exceptionally challenging because of the cliffs, the unpredictable snow squalls make it easy to become disoriented and lost at Jackson Hole.
		Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort, Whistler, British Colombia, Canada Whistler Blackcomb is a great place for all levels of skiers but experts will be thrilled. With a 7,500 feet summit, the runs are quite long and can be truly challenging for even the most experienced expert. Although it is a high priced resort, the expert skiing is well worth the money.
		Kitzbuhel, Austria Considering Kitzbuhel has one of the most difficult world cup circuit trails ever, this resort is a great choice for expert level skiers. Lift tickets are inexpensive so this is definitely a great place to go. The quaint village may have old world appeal but the après ski life is fun and plentiful.
		Verbier Ski Resort, Verbier, Switzerland Expert and extreme skiers find Verbier to be their Holy Grail. The trails are not only challenging but exhilarating. The views from Mont Fort are breathtaking. Verbier also has a premier ski school dedicated to expert skiers, which is a rare find.
