Voss ski resort, Norway

Voss is Scandinavia’s most popular resort, besides Lillehammer. The resort receives good snow throughout the season and has a beautiful backdrop between two of Norway’s largest fjords and against a pristine lake. This is a great mountain resort for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders while advanced riders will love free riding the terrain after a good snowfall.

At Voss you’ll find 40 kilometres of pistes, ranging from nursery slopes to advanced steeps. Fourteen chairlifts access the mountain, including the express lift from Bavallen which will take you to the top in five minutes, and there is also a great terrain park with jumps and a snowboardcross run. Beginners and experienced skiers, snowboarders and even telemarkers can build their skills with a day in ski school, learning the mountain and bettering their techniques. There are certain areas especially for little shredders to practice on as well.

Try a whole new experience and go night skiing on Wednesdays and Fridays, where lit runs are open until around 9pm. There are also 20 kilometres of groomed Nordic ski trails if you prefer to challenge the horizontal instead of the vertical for a day.

Most of the terrain on Voss is dedicated to intermediate skiers and snowboarders, and they’ll enjoy the attainable challenge of riding off-piste in powder of gentler slopes. Don’t be fooled though, Voss has also been host to many FIS World Cup races and claims to have raised more Winter Olympians than any other country.

After a big day on this amazing hill it’s time to head into town. Voss doesn’t have a huge selection of après ski activity but what is there is great. Try the local traditional après ski drink-a glass of hot glogg, a hot spiced wine perfect for warming up those chilly, tired limbs. You’ll find cozy cafes, pubs, restaurants and a few piano bars and night clubs in the village, and of course a number of comfortable accommodations to stumble home to afterwards. Dette er livet!
