The Alta Ski Area is located in the beautiful mountains of Utah and is truly a hidden treasure. Although there is snow making capabilities, the resort boasts an average of 540 inches of snow each season. There is a 2,020 vertical drop and 2,200 acres of skiable terrain. There are over 116 trails at the Alta Ski Area. 25 percent of the runs are rated as appropriate for beginner skiers, 40 percent are great for intermediates and 35 percent of the trails are designated for advanced skiers. There are seven chair lifts, three surface tows and a moving conveyor to service the mountain.
Cross country skiing is a popular activity at Alta. There are over five kilometers of groomed tracks. Conditions permitting, there is also a mid-mountain area of track on which to ski.
The ski school is staffed by expertly trained instructors. There are group and private lessons available and the groups are split up according to age.
There are five base lodges to choose from for lodging at the Alta Ski Area. They are all ski in, ski out and have a variety of amenities. Onsite restaurants and bars make Alta terrific for après ski fun. Ski and lodging packages are available and can be quite affordable if purchased in advance of your trip.
