The Big Mountain Ski Area is a rather unconventional ski area for the United States. There is a vertical drop of 2,200 feet and an incredible 3,000 skiable acres.
There are fifteen kilometers of groomed trails for cross country skiers. The trails are of varied skill levels and have beautiful scenery to enjoy.
Lodging opportunities are endless as there are campgrounds, recreational vehicle parks, boarding houses, bed and breakfasts as well as motels. At the base of the mountain lie some nice five star hotels, too. Restaurants are available inside of the slope side hotels and in town. Most serve typical American homestyle fare at reasonable prices. The après ski nightlife is minimal.
The local bars can be exciting as they usually have live music on the weekends. There are two genres of music to be found in Whitefish; they are country and classic rock and roll.
