Cataloochee Ski Resort has been in existence for more than 40 years. It is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It has exciting slopes, winding trails and a very friendly and helpful staff. There are 740 feet of vertical drop on 50 skiable acres. The average annual snowfall is nearly 50 inches so they have top notch snow making equipment which has the ability to create snow for 100 percent of the resort. Night snow fun is available every evening.
The terrain is serviced by 5 lifts which can move 2,000 people per hour. There are 12 trails at Cataloochee Ski Resort. There are 3 runs that are perfect for beginners. 6 slopes are designed for the use of intermediate level skiers and riders. Advanced snow enthusiasts have 3 trails dedicated solely to them. The longest run is 3,500 feet.
Snow tubing is popular at Cataloochee Ski Resort. The prices are affordable. A dedicated lift gets those tubing back up the hill quickly and easily.
Lodging and dining in the area are plentiful. Small motels are scattered about the surrounding area. Some are independently owned while others are chain motels. There are also fast food places, delis, chain restaurants and full service independently owned establishments. The choices are many.
There are several pubs and bars for après ski partying. A few have pool tables for those that shoot. Most have live entertainment on the weekends.
