Catamount Ski Area is located on the border between New York and Massachusetts. It is a completely environmentally friendly resort as all of the energy used there is created by wind power. It is one of the few totally green ski area in the United States. The vertical drop is 1,000 feet and there are nearly 120 skiable acres. The snow making equipment covers 99 percent of the terrain.
The six lifts can transport 5,200 people per hour. There are 33 runs and terrain park areas at Catamount Ski Area. Ten trails are designated for use by beginners. Eleven are set aside for those with intermediate skills. There are twelve areas that are strictly for black diamond and double black diamond skiers and riders. The longest run is 2 ½ miles downhill and night skiing is available on the weekends.
Lodging is plentiful in the area. There are quaint bed and breakfasts, small motels and larger hotels nearby. The prices vary with the amenities but many include free continental breakfasts.
Dining options range from fast food places to full scale gourmet restaurants. There is something for everyone.
The après ski activities are many. The local bars and pubs usually have live music on the weekends. Hotel lounges draw crowds with their nightly entertainment. Movie theaters and bowling alleys are not far from the resort.
