Mount Ilgaz is located in the Cankiri Province of the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. The Ilgaz ski centre was established on this mountain in 1976. The closest airport is Ankara. From there, visitors can take taxis or buses to the Ilgaz ski area. It takes about two hours from Ankara and four hours from Istanbul.
This ski hill has slope side accommodations for visitors. There are five restaurants in Mount Ilgaz ski hill. The surrounding mountains of the Ilgaz National Park include peaks with altitudes of 2850 metres.
The top elevation on this hill is 2034 metres and the base elevation is 1600 metres giving this ski hill a vertical drop of 434 metres. There are four trails and many other slopes off-piste. The trails are rated Beginners – 75% and Advanced – 25%. These trails are close to international standards and also suited to short slalom races. The three runs are each 750 metres, 1000 metres and 1500 metres long.
This ski hill has three lifts including 1 chair lift and 2 surface lifts. One of the lifts is 1000 metres long. The two lifts take the skiers over a distance of 2500 metres at 1700 persons per hour. With every ticket, visitors get a ski lift pass and unlimited piste access and any training if required.
The ski season usually begins in December and ends in April. The average snowfall is 50 cm – 2 metres in average weather conditions. The quality of the snow is considered to be excellent when compared to other ski hills in the area.
