Melchsee-Frutt not only possesses the daftest name of all ski resorts, but can also be considered to be one of Switzerland’s best kept secrets. 2000 meters up on the side of a pristine lake, you will find this delightful traffic-free village. The sunny little village on the shores of the Melchsee Lake boasts a children’s zoo, play areas, camp-fire sites and various themed footpaths.
Unusually for Swiss ski resorts, Melchsee-Frutt lies in the middle of the ski area with open mountain pistes above the village and tree-lined cruising runs below. 13 lifts service the area, with skiable terrain from 2265 meters down to the hamlet of Stöckalp at 1080 meters. There are runs for all abilities, but the village undoubtedly suits families and the great children’s area is evidence of this.
There is the usual range of activities in and around the village, but along with the scenery and the fantastic skiing, the highlight of your stay at Melchsee-Frutt must be the 8 km long toboggan run at Stöckalp. Stöckalp is literally the end of the road for car drivers – a free car park and a cable car ride is the only way to get to Melchsee-Frutt. Melchsee-Frutt has a handful of choices for accommodation, all focused on families.
