Located 15 minutes south of Duluth in northern Wisconsin, Mont du Lac is nestled into a lovely wildlife setting on 393 acres with spectacular views. There is a chalet at the base with a large wood burning fireplace, grill for food, and pub. New owners took over in 2010 and the chalet has been spruced up, painted, and made family friendly with big screen TVs, a large new deck and a new snowboarding terrain park. They have also put in a new high speed tow so if you go make sure to bring gloves with leather palms. Did you know that you build muscles taking a tow rather than a chair lift? And burn tons of calories?! The hill has a vertical drop of 310 feet with 8 trails and 2 chair lifts for day skiing, night skiing, and tubing.

This is a beginning skier's dream come true. A sweet little hill that is gentle and easy. If you want to learn how to ski or to snowboard, this is your hill! Mont du Lac is all about learning.
There's a Mont du Lac Recreation Center that offers lessons in four different ways. First, you can join the Holiday Camp which explores the mountain as a group lesson. Then there is the Mont du Kids Club for kids between 3 years of age and 17. There is the Mont du Lac Learn a SnowSport Program, which offers lessons for beginners of all ages, and there is a Racing Program for children and adults to learn how to race. For all programs, helmets are recommended.
Lessons can be private or in groups. The price of the lesson includes lifts during the one hour lesson. Group lessons are approximately $10 and private one hour lessons are $30. If you would like to improve your ski racing skills, or learn how to race, you can sign up for the Mont du Lac Alpine Club which has a ski coach who trains you to compete in Slalom and Giant Slalom.
There's also great snow tubing on hand and snowmobiling available. The snow tubing park has 100 tubes, a handle tow, 5 chutes and night tubing. Tubing is free with a lift ticket.
In the 2012/2013 ski season they are hoping to open a chalet lodge at the top of the mountain as well with a restaurant, bar and great views over the St. Louis River Valley and Jay Cooke State Park.
This lovely family hill is located in the city of Superior on the shores of Lake Superior. For those of you not skiing Mont du Lac, Superior has three museums to visit. There is the Richard I. Bong World War II Heritage Center honoring Richard Bong and all the flying aces who fought in WWII. There is A World Of Accordions Museum. And there is the SS Meteor Maritime Museum.
For lodging there are an ample number of motels in the area as well as casual restaurants. Visit the Thirsty Pagan Brewing for wonderful pizza and live entertainment, the Anchor Bar for burgers, or Vintage Italian Pizza for Italian specialties and for watching sports on the large flat screen TVs.
