Mulligans Hollow Ski Bowl, Grand Haven, Michigan, USA

ski hotels

Run by volunteers, Mulligans Hollow Ski Bowl was founded to give kids the opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation. It is a fun little hill with full snow making capability, a cool outdoor fire pit and a warming hut, a snowboard park for freestylers, and an ice skating rink just next door. It still is geared towards kids, which makes it absolutely perfect if your kids want to learn how to ski with other kids and on a hill that is gentle and non-threatening! And it is affordable at only $16 for a lift ticket! If you as an adult would like to ski, that's fine too. You are indeed encouraged to do so with an “Adult Night” on Tuesdays from 6 – 9 pm.

It has a vertical drop of 130 feet with 2 lifts carrying skiers to 10 trails spread out over 10 skiable acres---all of which is lighted for night skiing. Trails are equally divided between beginner and intermediate. If you ever wanted to learn how to snowboard, this is where to do it. The trails are really well suited for it and there are even classes given in snowboarding.

If you would like to stay right in town, Grand Haven has lots of choices for lodging and dining. Grand Haven is right on the water with a beautiful boardwalk, lighthouse, and many clubs and restaurants that make for a lively nightlife.

For lodging ideas, budget travelers should take a look at the Days Inn Grand Haven. It has a large indoor heated pool the kids would love, a game room and free continental breakfast. Days Inn is close to downtown and the beaches, boardwalk, and shopping area. For a beautiful B&B that would be a real treat, take a look at The Looking Glass Inn in Grand Haven. Wow. It sits high on a bluff looking over the lake. You have to put your suitcases on a “lift” to get them up to the house. You even get to hop on so as not to have to walk all the stairs to the top. Great décor in the rooms with sunset views and a full home cooked breakfast make this B&B a little gem.

White Swann Inn Bed & Breakfast in Whitehall, a few miles away from Grand Haven, is sweet and welcoming with a lovely home cooked breakfast.

15 miles away is Muskegon, Michigan, another great choice for lodging and dining near Mulligans Hollow ski area. For great views over Muskegon Lake, take a look at the Shoreline Inn at Terrace Point and ask for a room on one of the top floors for best panoramic views. There is an indoor heated pool and hot tub which is nice to have in the winter. Some of the rooms even have a full kitchen. On the other end of the spectrum are B&Bs. Take a look at Port City Victorian Inn B&B. It has beautifully decorated rooms that are comfortable and cozy, some with an in-room Jacuzzi. It offers a home cooked breakfast with just baked breads and pastries.

For more winter fun, in Muskegon State Park you can go lugeing in the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex!!!! There are only 3 in the United States so this would be a unique opportunity to try it out. They also also give luge classes. For other winter sports activities, the complex offers cross country skiing over expertly groomed wide trails, ice skating and snowshoeing. And for even more excitement, they have ice skating trails through the scenic woods!
