North Mountain resort in Washington is very popular and has been the best, family resort in the region. The 49” Mountain Resort or simply 49” to regular visitors is situated in the Newport Ranger District of the Colville National forest on the slopes of the Chewelah Peak mountain. The resort offers alpine skiing and snowboarding and has an annual snowfall of three hundred inches. The resort has a skiable area in excess of two thousand acres and a vertical drop of 1851 feet. The resort has six lifts, five of which are chairs and a lift capacity of 6010 per hour.
The resort has a total of eighty eight trails of which thirty percent are suitable for beginners, 40% for those with intermediate ability, 25% for advanced skiers and 5% for expert skiers. The resort is open from November through April between the hours of 9am and 4pm. However, visitors come all year round to enjoy the wonderful views and to take part in a range of leisure activities. There are children's and women's programmes as well as skiing and snowboarding lessons.
If you want to take a break from skiing and rest your aching muscles then visit the day lodge, shop and cafeteria where you can get some refreshments and take a look at what the shop has to offer. For those who want to enjoy the resort without having to worry about young children we have some good child minding facilities. The resort shop also has a choice of rental units if you want to stay in the area for a while.
