Russia Skiing

The Russian Federation, with over a hundred ski areas, offers some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world. Many of the smaller ski areas are a little outdated and can sometimes be difficult to get to. However, some of Russia’s bigger resorts in the Caucasus Mountains, with Krasnaya Polyana being the most popular one, are quickly developing into international attractions for skiers from all over the world.

Russia is host to the 2014 Winter Olympics, which will undoubtedly help in firmly placing the country on the map as a world-class skiing destination. Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest mountain, stands at 5,642 meters and is covered in snow all year—allowing for 365 days a year of snowboarding and skiing. Other areas in the Caucasus Mountains have a ski season that runs from November to June. Skiing is Russia may not be as “polished” as it is in the mainstream  European resorts, but it is a great place for people with a sense of adventure who enjoy skiing on challenging mountains.
