The awe-inspiring beauty of Shimla, located in the lap of the might Himalayas, brings tourists from all over the world to this little town about 90 km from Kalka, Himachal Pradesh, a state in northern part of India.
This mountain has an altitude of 2,159 metres. Visitors can enjoy the quaint little train that winds up to the Shivalik foothills to Shimla, a resort created by the British after they invaded India. To reach this area, visitors need to get to the Shimla Aiport in Jabarhatti, about 22 km from Shimla. Accommodations are easily available in Shimla. From the airport, taxis are available to transport visitors to the ski hill of Shimla or Kufri.
Kufri, near Shimla is known for its beautiful scenery and activities such as hiking, skiing, trekking and tobogganing on the snow covered slopes in winter. In Kufri, there is a range of slopes for skiers of all levels of expertise. In addition to the ski runs, there is a slalom run.
The skiing season extends from November to February of each year. The only way to get to the peak of Kufri is to hire a horse and a guide. The ride is not easy, but the view of the north or India stretching over Nepal to China is worth the trouble.
At the top, try a yak or pony ride while sipping hot chai at 2500 metres. Kufri, one of the oldest ski resorts in India, is still used for its amazing vertical slopes and beautiful snow. There are old style ski equipment for hire and a ski school on the grounds, but the crowds are thinning out due to the difficulty of reaching this high mountain peak.
