Vitosha is a mountain massif in the Vitosha National Park which is located near Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. The ski resort is only 10 km away from the Sofia International Airport. This is the highest ski resort in the country.
Simple accommodations are available near the resort. However, for larger families and people with exclusive tastes, there are many luxury style accommodations in the Simeonovo and Dragalevtsi area of Sofia.
The Vitosha Mountain is easily accessible all year round. The altitude of the mountain is 1800 metres although the highest peak here is 2290 metres. The mountain with its vast slopes filled with fresh powder allows tourists to enjoy all levels of skiing. There are six ski runs and a running trail.
There are 13 lifts in Vitosha Ski Mountain including a 6 chair gondola, a Triple chair, 1 Double chair and 9 surface lifts for a total uphill capacity of 8520 persons per hour.
There are six trails here for varying degrees of difficulty rated Beginners – 16%, Intermediate – 52%, Advanced 16% and Expert – 16%.
Activities here include skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, slalom, and cross-country skiing. For Après ski activities, there are two biosphere preserves in the area along with hiking trails, many restaurants, spa and pubs to enjoy.
